10 GENRES & DRINKS FOR A GRINDHOUSE MARATHON

Itching for a long day/night of trashy film goodness? If so, buckle down and throw yourself a merry little grindhouse film marathon. DG has put together a list of genres and drink choices to assist you in your planning. Salute!

10 GENRES & 10 DRINKS FOR A

GRINDHOUSE MARATHON

10. Spaghetti Western

Drink: Rotgut Whiskey

How to prepare and serve: Purchase a bottle of your local liquor store’s cheapest whiskey. Lace the inside of a number of shot glasses with a fine layer of dirt and then fill them with the whiskey. Name your creation a “Tuco” and serve to family and friends as you fire up your western.

9. Zombie

Drink: Zombie

How to prepare and serve: This one is a no-brainer. Simply serve up that most famous of “knock you on your ass” drinks (look up the ingredients yourself, too damn many to list here) and add a sprinkling of beef brain to the mix (it’s best not to share that last ingredient with your guests until they are zombies themselves).

8. Carsploitation

Drink: Vodka Jolt

How to prepare and serve:  Mix your favorite vodka with Jolt Cola and serve to your guests a good 30 minutes before the film so that they are nice and wired when the first car chase tears across the screen.

7. Hixploitation

Drink: Moonshine Whiskey

How to prepare and serve: If your liquor stores offers it, Stilhouse Moonshine Clear Corn Whiskey is the perfect drink to guzzle down while viewing some backwoods debauchery. Add a dash of bacon grease to it and you’ve got yourself a “Squealer”.

6. Japanese Monster Movie (Kaiju)

Drink: Sake Bomb

How to prepare and serve: Drop a shot glass of Sake into a glass of beer and you’ve got yourself a Sake Bomb. Pound accordingly.  Do this three times in a row fast and you’ve got yourself a “Ghidorah”.

5. Pinky Violence

Drink: Bullfrog

How to prepare and serve: Mix 1 1/2 oz vodka, 1/4 oz triple sec and 6 oz. pink lemonade, pour into a collins glass filled with ice and stir well. Be creative and hand out pink handcuffs as party favors and nickname your drink a “Sex and Fury”.

4. Eco-Horror

Drink: Swamp Water

How to prepare and serve: Mix 2 ozs apricot brandy, 2 ozs vodka,  2 ozs Sprite and 4 ozs  limeade and watch your guests “squirm” with delight as they consume the goodness.

3. Slasher

Drink: Bloody Mary

How to prepare and serve: Start your grindhouse festival off right in the AM with a bloody slasher flick and this most famous of breakfast drinks. Mix 3 parts vodka, 6 parts tomato juice and 1 part lemon juice and then pour into a  highball with ice. Then add dashes of Worcestershire Sauce, Tabasco, salt and pepper and garnish with a celery stock and you are ready for the day. Double up on the hot stuff and name your concoction a “Vorhees”.

2. Kung Fu

Drink: Tsingtao Beer

How to prepare and serve: This light, well-hopped pilsner is the perfect beverage to consume during a dizzy kung fu fest. Turn the event into a drinking game by taking a drink every time there is bad dubbing on the screen (you’ll have a sixer downed within 10 minutes).

1. Blaxploitation

Drink: Colt 45 Malt Liquor

How to prepare and serve: Drink from the can and just know that “it works every time!”.
