In a surprise announcement that has fans foaming at the mouth like so many rabid zombies, Capcom unveiled a surprise trailer for RESIDENT EVIL 9, aka RESIDENT EVIL REQUIEM, at this year’s Summer Games Fest.
Coming in hot during the period many consider the Resident Evil revival renaissance, REQUIEM seems to promise a blend of old and new with a return to the obliterated ruins of Raccoon City alongside a new protagonist with a very familiar name.
Long time fans will recognize the name Alyssa Ashcroft from the cult classic titles RESIDENT EVIL OUTBREAK and RESIDENT EVIL OUTBREAK FILE 2. A journalist, she was the whistleblower to Umbrella’s downfall and one of the few canonical survivors of the two titles. Our new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, seems to be following closely in her footsteps.
With eight months between now and the release, there will be plenty of time for fans to chew on the meat left for us in the tight three-and-a-half-minutes of footage given to us so far, and rest assured, they will. As will this fellow rabid writer.
RESIDENT EVIL REQUIEM will be released on February 27, 2026!
