While most familiar to genre fans from Mario Bava’s pop art spy-fi masterpiece DANGER: DIABOLIK, the character of Diabolik has been seen in a number of different forms beyond that and his original fumetti incarnation. Last seen as an animated series in 2000, the latest incarnation is a live-action Italian TV series set to run for at least 13 episodes on Sky Network overseas sometime next year.
It looks damn good, a mixture of classic Diabolik imagery and Daniel Craig-era Bond style. While it’s unlikely that the Italian-language series will find a home here, hopefully the fansub community can keep American audiences from being too out of the loop.
