PRESENTING “FRIDAY THE 13TH #13!”

There have been twelve feature films so far in the FRIDAY THE 13TH series. The last one was released in 2009, which means Jason Voorhees hasn’t been on the big screen in sixteen years and counting.

Inspired by our prompt about crafting a sequel, writer Katie Beachy came back to us with not just one but two full pitches! Grab a canteen and some marshmallows and settle in…

If you had an unlimited budget and could make any FRIDAY THE 13th movie you wanted, what movie would you make?

FULL SCREENPLAY:

January 2027: Wayne Gretzky visits the site of his future resort property for retired athletes with girlfriend Christine Higgins, who is visibly uncomfortable during the ride to the location.

Upon arriving, Wayne decides to check out the large lake on the property, which has frozen over. Wayne comes across an old hockey net tangled in the brush, but upright. Upon walking further down and returning, he sees a man [Jason] in a hockey mask and initiates a non-verbal hockey game. After commending his new unnamed friend’s skill as a goalie, Wayne points to the top of the hill and states his resort will be built where an old campground once stood. When he turns back, Jason is gone.

While he is away, Chris Higgins is shocked by a group of three men knocking on their newly updated cabin, placed a ways away from the original camp site — Jeff, Michael, and Darren, three hockey players close to retiring who are huge fans of Wayne and interested in partnering in the resort. They inform her that a famous figure skating family, the Malenskis, were reported to be traveling from Russia to investigate the new resort property. Chris feels tentatively hopeful that they have left the violent past of Crystal Lake behind.

Helpful park ranger (played by Susan Sarandon) comes upon Wayne walking the property and informs him to his shock the town is empty and his resort is their only hope to regain the respect of CRYSTAL LAKE. Wayne realizes that the men who sold him the resort have conned him.

The Malenski family arrives, acting on a badly translated ad placed by the conmen, and are surprised by the potential of the land and large frozen lake. Finding a newly cleared sheet of ice that was previously covered in snow when Wayne visited earlier, the family begins practicing playfully, with Anya recklessly attempting her goal of landing a quadruple axel. Her family is amazed as she nearly lands for the first time but falls out early and lands unharmed. Her father skates over to congratulate her as her mother stares off into the distance, startled by what looked like a man in an old dirty hockey mask watching the family from the woods. From where he was standing clearly between two trees, he has now vanished the instant Anya fell. Brushed off by her father, Anya attempts more tricks, wobbling on a new injury that is hidden by the dulling cold air. She falls again, this time crashing into the hockey goal and cracks the ice, and is shocked when she sees a man staring up at her from under the crack in the ice. She screams, and her parents reach her just as an icy hand slips back under the surface of the crack and disappears, unseen by the adults.

Back at the cabins, the three hockey players unload their luggage and discuss what brought them there — Jeff is excited about the prospect of making a lot of money off of a resort which is already going viral on the internet as a true crime haven, versus the retired athletic community that has been envisioned. Jeff wants to partner officially with Wayne after a highly successful career, while the other men are more interested in simple investment. Darren is still nursing a career-ending knee injury, while the two men tease Michael that his poor decision making is what resulted in him being benched for most of the last season, resulting in his early retirement. Sulking back to his room, Michael pulls out a photo of his father congratulating his uncle who is dressed in a hockey jersey and holding a medal and a hockey mask tilted back over his head, revealed to be Shelly Finklestein. It is inferred by the audience that Michael had been playing hockey due to his uncle, who was murdered on the very site 45 years earlier.

Chris, now left alone with her true intention of scoping out the location for Jason, heads to the cabins where the men described staying. Just beyond an overgrown thicket of trees stand the original cabins, broken down and clearly abandoned but somehow still standing, despite promises that all original structures had been destroyed or had been reclaimed by nature. Determined, she enters the old cafeteria and makes her way up to an abandoned office, where she is horrified to find recently used, with an old, dirty hockey mask placed reverently in the only clearing of the room, atop a locked chest. Chris becomes inconsolable and sprints out back towards her cabin. Unbeknownst to her; she is watched from a distance by a shadowy figure.

Upon realizing the true location of his resort, Wayne becomes infuriated as he hurries up to the cabins to discuss what he has learned with Chris . He instead runs into Darren and Jeff, who excitedly approach him but are extremely put off as Wayne rudely disregards them and insults their willingness to get involved in his project. Darren shakes his head and chastises Jeff for not simply writing an email, while Jeff glares hard at Wayne’s rapidly disappearing figure.

Michael sits outside his cabin, staring at an old ax chopping block with a suspiciously old-looking rusted ax still wedged in a withered stump. Overgrowth suggests the campground has not been used in quite some time. Deep in thought, he jumps at the sound of someone crashing into his campground and turns to see his hero, Wayne Gretzky, huffing and swearing in the distance.

Offering his help, Michael is able to assist Wayne with a suspicious knowledge of the layout of the grounds and leads Wayne into the arms of a panicking Chris. Upon recognizing her and hearing that Jason’s old gear had been discovered, a traumatized Michael panics and runs off before the couple can tell him everyone must leave the camp.

The Malenski family, infuriated and swearing loudly in a foreign language, come across the cabins where the three men are staying as Michael is attempting to explain what is happening. Darren and Michael attempt to help, as Jeff creepily eyes an extremely anxious looking Anya. The three cannot, despite having been on a team with several different languages being spoken at once, communicate with the family as both groups are visibly upset.

The Malenski family returns to the luxury cabin set up for them by someone working for the con men, with Yuri screaming into the phone that they did not sign up for this on this stupid trip to America, and that this will cause an international incident. Anya hurriedly attempts to pack her belongings, but is horrified to discover a man in a hockey mask hiding in her closet. She runs away, and Yuri chucks the phone down to find the closet empty and Anya and Irina terrified. Upon returning to the phone, he finds he has destroyed it. Infuriated, he pulls the blade guard off his ice skate and stomps down on the phone, breaking it clean in half.

Park ranger Susan Sarandon comes across a chaotic scene as all three groups are attempting to leave the park in varying degrees of insistence and anger. Riding a magnificent white horse, Susan shoots into the air to regain control. She tells them that local kids have made a game out of scaring any tourists that visit the area by dressing in hockey masks and surprising guests. She assures them nothing is wrong, and chastises the men for believing in ghosts and losing their heads.

Upset and exhausted, the Malenski family finds no one who can speak Russian except Wayne, who can only understand select extremely negative words from the family, and interprets that they are judging his hard work on the resort. A fight ensues, with Michael breaking it up and stating that they have to stick together to survive. In the scuffle, Irina points out the other two men are missing, with a pool of blood left in the snow. Wayne, in a fury Chris has never seen before, crashes through the forest alone. The Malenskis hurry off in a rage as well, as Anya looks back. As the group decides what to do, Anya appears out of the forest and reveals she can speak fluent English, and secretly wanted to visit the resort because she wishes to move to America to further her schooling once she finished her skating career in her home country, which she planned to retire from next year after not accomplishing her goals and in her mind, not being talented enough to make her family proud.

The blood leads back to the original campsites, where Darren is found with a knife sticking out of his leg. Michael tries to help him with the assistance of Anya, and Darren reassures him that he will be okay and to leave him as they search for the killer who took Jeff, joking that the masked madman who dragged him off at least stabbed his bad leg, leaving him with one uninjured leg. Anya questions Michael as to why they are worrying about Jeff at all, since she notes that he had made her uncomfortable in a way she couldn’t fully explain. When she asks Michael to share a photo with the group and he shares the photo from earlier that day, she notices that Jeff is wearing the same boots that the man in her closet had on. Stunned, she does not yet reveal this information but quietly returns to her mother and fathers’ cabin.

Now frustrated that they have lost the group, Michael and Chris attempt to gather Darren only to find a pool of blood where he once was. Breaking down, Michael reveals to Chris that his uncle was killed by Jason, and that he never believed that the danger had left Crystal Lake. When his friends showed interest in the resort, he secretly chose to come in an attempt to dissuade them. With his friends missing, he blames himself.

Wayne has an embarrassing breakdown in the cabin mirror, revealing to the audience that he is in fact broke and desperate, and was counting on this deal to NOT be too good to be true. He punches the mirror, shattering it, and as he is cursing himself and staunching the wound, a man in a hockey mask appears behind him in the remaining shards of mirror. A fight ensues, with Wayne having to grip a shard of glass to prevent the man from stabbing him, destroying his grip but stabbing the man in the stomach. He is shocked to hear a younger man’s strangled groan, and passes out from blood loss as the man runs out the back door as Chris and Susan Sarandon burst inside and give chase. Susan seems wildly unnerved and lets two shots off into the dark, hitting something once. She mutters “that’s not…” before disappearing into the woods alone in pursuit.

Chris rouses Wayne and yells at him to get it together, announcing that Jason has never left Crystal Lake and reassuring Wayne they can legally get out of the deal. Wayne wraps his hands in novelty hockey jerseys and reluctantly joins in the pursuit. Michael, standing guard outside the cabin, sees Anya who states she is retrieving her ice skates and heading down to the lake to confirm the existence of another, more powerful Jason now that they know Jeff is masquerading as the original killer.

Anya and Michael hear screams from the lake, where Darren has been pulled down by a “crazed Jeff” who says he needs him for a master plan. The Malenskis quickly arrive at the lake, with Irina on skiis. She quickly ties Darren’s leg to a ski and helps him down the mountain, even though they cannot communicate. Jeff is caught off guard when he sees the real Jason standing in the hockey net, and follows him as Yuri engages in pursuit. Jason disappears beneath a crack in the ice as Yuri sneaks up on Jeff, knocking him over and stomping on his arm, severing it. The real Jason reclaims Jeff under the water and the families sit in shock before the real Jason emerges from the icy water. His feet are frozen and formed into makeshift ice skates, which he uses to glide towards his new victims. Michael and Anya don their ice skates, with Michael unwedging a nearby sickle to use as a hockey stick. Wayne lumbers through the woods with Chris as the fight begins.

Yuri is quickly cast aside by Jason, hurting his back badly as he is thrown down onto the ice. Screaming for her father, Anya skates at top speed and to avoid Jason, perfectly lands a quadruple axel. Despite the chaos, Michael cannot help but cheer, visibly impressed by her talent after she downplayed her skills. Yuri lies silently, watching his daughter with pride. Michael skates behind Jason, but upon making eye contact with him, loses his courage and second guesses his move, getting ankle broken by Jason’s ice feet. He lands crumpled next to Yuri, who rises to his feet, wipes his bloody nose, and states in perfect english “Fuck this!” before engaging in his signature routine and slicing up Jason, however barely injuring him. He attempts to stomp Jason, who raises his ax and creates a huge fissure in the ice, separating him from the group and causing them to begin to sink into the water.

Wayne finally loses it, jumping directly into the cold water and swimming at top speed towards Jason, using his now frozen jersey-ed hands as clubs to fight off Jason and his axe. He is fatally wounded after he is stunned when knocks off Jason’s hockey mask. Chris screams from the side of the lake, but throws his hockey stick like a boomerang at him and he hits one last assist as he hits Jason in the head, knocking him to the ground.

With a booming scream, Anya speeds towards Jason, jumping across floating ice shards on her way. Seeing that Jason is distracted by Anya coming for him, Michael does not second guess himself and pulls off Jeff’s helmet and head, which is half submerged and frozen in the lake, tosses it, and slap shots Jeff’s head into Jason’s arm, exploding it into ice shards. Jeff’s head slowly comes to a rest inside the hockey goal. Michael begins to sink into the lake — the ax falls and barely misses Anya, and his last words are cheers as he watches Anya land a quintuple axel, previously thought scientifically impossible, cleanly slicing Jason’s head off with her skate as she spins, sending it back into the icy waters wherein the lake immediately begins to recover with ice. He sinks with a smile, finally able to save someone from Jason and end the evil at the camp.

Later, perched atop the hill and looking down upon the frozen the park ranger, whose horse whinnies anxiously as strange, reverberating noises come from the lake and a curiously large fist breaks through the thick sheet of ice. Wayne Gretzky emerges from the ice, skates frozen to his reanimated body, and slowly skates over to the forgotten mask, bloody and half-submerged in snow. He drifts slowly towards the net as he affixes the mask to his face and picks up the sickle as a hellish hockey stick. The forest ranger nods approvingly at him. She slowly turns her horse to ride back through the trees, back towards the original campsite.

In an after-credits scene, Darren, dressed in plain clothes, is sleeping beside Michael’s hospital bed as machines beep around him. Anya walks through the door, smiling softly as she holds the keys to her new apartment in America, retiring after landing the most difficult trick ever known to man. The TV plays news of her parents winning gold in pairs figure skating for the Olympics after a heroic recovery after a botched trip to America and announces the entire famous family will be retiring. As Anya sits beside the hospital bed, Michael opens his eyes and smiles.

FRIDAY THE 13TH#14: LOCH P14CID

Starring:

Robert Carlyle as head researcher Douglas Elway

Kate Dickie as research assistant Flora Gordon

Tilda Swintin as Magda Elane

Henry Ian Cusick as Alaistair McCullough

Rose Leslie as Freya McCullough

Frankie Corio as Rory McCullough

Erik Per Sullivan as Sergeant David Masterson

Christopher Eccleston as International Intelligence Officer Carl Ingram

Doubtful cryptozoology researchers Douglas Elway and Flora Gordon arrive at Loch Ness amidst claims that a monster has been sighted. US—Scotland tensions rise as rumors spread that the united states military is working covertly in the area. Douglas and Flora discover two AWOL United States and British intelligence members who reveal the two countries have been dumping a new chemical weapon that creates super-powerful organisms being tested in Loch Ness, where any resulting successful organisms would be passed off as cryptids. However, the results have been mixed and the eels in the loch have grown legs and climbed out, only to quickly perish and cause growing concerns in the community.

Meanwhile, a local family attempts to help their daughter Rory navigate the recent loss of her best friend, Lachlan Elane, who has gone mysteriously missing. Lachlan’s mother, Magda, is in shock and has not spoken since the loss of her son, and spends her time silently walking to the end of the dock extending over her property and staring over the loch for hours.

After he is captured by the military for infiltrating their base, Douglas is forcibly fed the chemical and let loose on his friends, killing Freya and Sergeant Masterson and forcing Alaistair to throw himself onto the rapidly mutating body of Douglas, who is now quickly perishing after doing extreme damage to the group.

Gravely injured, Officer Carl Ingram escapes the chaos to deliver a maimed Rory to the home of Magda Elane. He is horrified to find wet and slimy clothing in Lachlan’s old room, and is promptly knocked out by Magda.

Magda is revealed to have been walking down to the lakeside to feed her son, Lachlan, who drowned in the lake but was revived by the chemicals, and now hunts for evil adults who cause harm to the community, targeting the military personelle as they dump more chemicals into the lake.

Research assistant Flora has survived the attack in the military research base by jumping into the infected water and swimming away. She mutates slowly, likely due to her frequent dabbling in unhealthy terrain in her search for cryptids, and encounters Lachlan, who she recognizes as a victim of the military industrial complex and attempts to kill him. Rory jumps into the lake herself to intervene, and Officer Ingram sacrifices himself by throwing himself into the water and using his multiple new limbs to immobilize Lachlan and throw Flora back on land.

YEARS LATER:

Rory and Flora arrive at a cryptozoology conference to discuss Flora’s recent investigative work into cryptids of Europe, and to announce her book tour. Rory sits silently to her side, looking down at the desk as Flora carries on as normal and introduces her adopted daughter to the crowd. The camera pans down under the table, revealing Flora has a third arm inside her sweater, and Rory is holding her third hand under the table with her own multiple fingers.

An older Rory approaches the edge of a lake, extending a juicy raw steak over the dock. A mutated arm reaches out slowly and takes the steak. Back in America, Flora pulls into a clearing in the woods as “Ball of Confusion” by The Temptations blasts from the speakers of her red corvette convertible . She gets out of the car, holding a newspaper with the front page title of CHEMICAL WEAPONS TESTING IN NEW JERSEY??? as the camera pans up to a “Camp Crystal Lake” sign.
