We here at the Daily Grindhouse are always pleased to welcome new and exciting voices into the auditorium to share their thoughts and views on everything from cinema to books to that thing you found under the freezer last night (I’m looking at you, Steve). We’re even more excited when one of those voices decides to step back outside and make something of their own, which is the case with DG veteran Janine Pipe, who’s been enjoying a fantastic 2022. Earlier this year she dropped her debut nonfiction book SAUSAGES, a unique exploration of the history and making of DOG SOLDIERS from the perspective of the fans who’ve kept the film’s cult alive; she’s currently at work co-editing an anthology (with Christian Francis) for Encyclopocalypse Publications; and she formed her own production company, Pipe Screams, currently in prepro on their first feature #UNBOXED. Not content to just enjoy her own success, though, Janine has also been at work helping to promote other folks trying to get their own dreams off the ground, which is why she brought to our attention earlier this week THE OTHER SIDE, a dramatic horror film currently in preproduction with a schedule to begin shooting in March ’23 in Hertfordshire, England.
Described as the story of a young man “as he navigates a dangerous lifestyle and confronts his traumas,” the film is written and will be directed by Mitchell Burrows, who says of the film, ““Films and filmmaking have both been an integral part of my life, having spent as much time as I can exploring the wealth of intellectually & emotionally engaging or challenging projects that history has to offer, whilst picking up any opportunity I can to bring my own discussions and craftsmanship to light whether than be in my projects or through being parts of others’. With THE OTHER SIDE I aim to take my first full swing into the world of filmmaking as a solo writer/director, allowing the ideas & methods I’ve built with previous smaller projects to take center stage, bringing my own conversations to the table in the process.”
The film will star genre players Chris Mills (FOUND FOOTAGE OF FEAR: DIGITAL TERROR; HACKER: TRUST NO ONE) and Peter Tilley (CASTING KILL), the latter of whom says about the project, “I’ve never read a story like this before, it’s something very different, something that you will be hooked by all throughout the film with what goes down, and it’s full of plot twists and you won’t
know what’s coming next.”
