HEY BASTARDS.

A Takashi Miike release is time to stop what you’re doing, gas up the cruiser, and bounce to the theatre asap. His films are a constant, visceral punch of cool that deserve your attention. Following 2010’s (though released stateside last year) 13 ASSASSINS remake, Miike is back with a re-telling of another samurai classic, this time 1962’s HARAKIRI. The ’62 film is nothing short of a critical indictment of Bushido (the way of the warrior). It is a careful measure of a warriors spirit and the delicate balance of the natural human spirit versus the actions of a soldier. As the world is becoming increasingly tired of war, this is a fascinating time for this film to resurface in our dialogue, I just hope the remake lives up to the original. Here’s the trailer…

I think this could be one of the best films Miike has delivered, certainly one of the more poetic and haunting. We’re a long ways from the DEAD OR ALIVE days, eh?
