SHORT FILM SHOWCASE – LOST CRACKS FOUND, CHRISTMAS TREAT

The short film CRACKS has achieved almost legendary status among animation fanatics.  Aired on “Sesame Street” on New Year’s Eve, 1975, the animated short about a young girl whose imagination gives life to the cracks she has in her walls never appeared again.

Until now.

Over the night, the short has crept up on YouTube, like missing shorts by Ralph Bakshi and Jamaa Fanaka over the past few weeks.  And now you can see it in full below.

The animator is rumored to have been Cosmo Anzliotti, but he has denied association with the project.  In any case, it’s a great surprise Christmas present for fans of cult media.

However, if something a bit more festive is your bag, you can also watch 1986’s A CHRISTMAS TREAT, a ghoulish holiday-themed short written and directed by Tim Sullivan, who later went on to fame and fortune (okay, internet fame and a respectable career) as the director of 2001 MANIACS and co-director of CHILLERAMA.  The short won the Fangoria Short Film Search Award at the time, and would have fit right in on a late-night Christmas eve of “Night Flight” programming.

A better-quality version is available as a signed special edition DVD on Sullivan’s website here.

And to all a good night!
