THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

FRIDAY, JULY 28, 2017 (All show times are local)

The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles is doing a double feature of Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi/action flicks. At 7:00 pm is TOTAL RECALL and at 9:25 pm is THE RUNNING MAN. Both films are being screened from 35mm prints. Tickets and info can be found here.

The under-seen Spanish ghost film THE ORPHANAGE, is a midnight movie at Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn. Tickets and info can be found here.

The Alamo Drafthouse in Houston is doing a double feature of THE DUNGEONMASTER and FROM BEYOND starting at 9:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

MANHUNTER, Michael Mann’s excellent, creepy adaptation of Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon, is screening from a 35mm print at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA at midnight. Tickets and info can be found here.

The brutal triple feature of MANIAC, THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, and CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST is playing at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles. All three films are screening from 35mm prints with special guests in attendance. The show starts at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Not to be completely outdone, the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington, NY is screening SLEEPAWAY CAMP, SLEEPAWAY CAMP II, and SLEEPAWAY CAMP III all from 35mm prints. The show starts at 10:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

David Cronenberg’s uneven, but fascinating SCANNERS is playing at the Alamo Drafthouse in El Paso, TX at 10:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
