This film was the main influence for what would eventually become BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA and the similarities are fairly obvious. Both move at a rapid pace, both are filled with gags and visually impressive fight scenes, and both feature over-the-top characters (though nothing in this can top Jack Burton from BTILC). Tsui Hark has repeatedly created visual masterpieces and redefined genres, but ZU is among the best films he has ever made.
