THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

The Alamo Drafthouse programming team in San Francisco had the inspired idea to do a series of films called Shane Black Christmas. At 9:45 pm is the underrated, playful, and nastily violent THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

Nicholas Ray’s IN A LONELY PLACE gave Humphrey Bogart a chance to shine in a different sort of role and he turned in the best performance of his career. Go see the film screen from a 35mm print at Trylon Cinema in Minneapolis at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

BAD SANTA holds up as one of the best recent Christmas-themed films thanks to Billy Bob Thornton’s memorably hilarious performance. You can see it at Film Bar in Phoenix at 10:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

Tim Burton’s superior BATMAN RETURNS is screening from a 35mm print at the Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers, NY at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

Jim Jarmusch puts his unique spin on the western with DEAD MAN. It is screening from a 35mm print at Northwest Film Center in Portland, OR at 7:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

William Wyler’s excellent noir DETECTIVE STORY is screening from a 35mm print at Quad Cinema in New York at 5:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

The chilly low budget early ’70s horror flick SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT is playing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Corpus Christi, TX at 8:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
