THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 17, 2017 (All show times are local)
Stephen Chow’s Iron Chef on crack comedy THE GOD OF COOKERY is being screened from a 35mm print at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX at 10:45 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
HOUSE OF GAMES, David Mamet’s feature directorial debut about con artists, is being shown at the Whitney Humanities Center on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, CT at 7:00 pm. This a free 35mm screening. Full info can be found here.
It may seem strange to do so, but you really cannot turn down the chance to see a 1993 direct-to-video Cynthia Rothrock film on the big screen. BLOODY MARY KILLER is playing at the Trylon Microcinema in Minneapolis, MN at 9:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
Admit it, we are all a little nostalgic for the odd, stream-of-consciousness erotic features of Zalman King. You can catch a 35mm screening of TWO MOON JUNCTION, one of King’s best-known films, at BAMCinématek in Brooklyn at 7:00 pm and 9:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
With numerous opportunities to see his films on the big screen, it has already been a good year for fans of David Lynch. In case you have yet to catch BLUE VELVET, it is playing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas, TX at 7:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
I have never been a big James Bond fan, but I don’t see how you can pass up seeing Sean Connery in THUNDERBALL, arguably one of the better films in the series. It is playing at the Senator Theatre in Baltimore, MD at 8:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
If you know of an under-the-radar theater or film society regularly putting together repertory screenings or special events, feel free to let me know on Twitter!
