It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

Hideo Nakata’s original RINGU is playing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX at 10:30 pm. This is a 35mm screening. Tickets and info can be found here.
The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles has an impressive triple feature of family horrors. At 7:30 pm is Michael Winner’s SCREAM FOR HELP, at 9:30 pm is Terry O’Quinn at his very best in THE STEPFATHER, and at 11:15 pm is Gary Sherman’s LISA. Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn is showing Sofia Coppola’s lavish MARIE ANTOINETTE at 7:15 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
THE AMERICAN FRIEND, Wim Wenders’ tense, funky adaptation of Patrica Highsmith’s Ripley’s Game, is playing a 40th anniversary show at the Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers, NY at 9:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
Writer/director Ana Lily Amirpour is at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago to present her latest film THE BAD BATCH at 7:00 pm followed by her fantastic feature directorial debut A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT at 9:45 pm. Amirpour will be doing a Q&A between the two films. Tickets and info can be found here.
The TV version of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER was so good that it is easy to forget that the 1992 film starring Kristy Swanson is actually a lot of fun. You can catch it at the Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco at 10:55 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
