[DAILY RUNDOWN] TODAY’S COOL SCREENINGS!

THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

FRIDAY, JUNE 9, 2017 (All show times are local)

The Music Box Theatre in Chicago has an embarrassment of riches today. A double feature of Edgar Wright’s SHAUN OF THE DEAD at 7:00 pm and HOT FUZZ at 9:15 pm is just the warm up for the truly insane HAUSU at midnight. All three films are being screened from 35mm prints. Tickets and info can be found here.

Cinefamily in Los Angeles is screening the cheesy ’80s fun of THE WRAITH from a 35mm print as the midnight movie. Tickets and info can be found here.

Exhumed Films is presenting a hell of a double feature at International House in Philadelphia. Revel in the glory of young Mickey Rourke in ANGEL HEART and then soak in the rarely screened voodoo horror of LORD SHANGO immediately after. The show starts at 8:00 pm. Both films are being screened from 35mm prints. Tickets and info can be found here.

Can you afford to pass up the chance to see a 35mm screening of E.T. THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL on the big screen? We all know the answer to this question. Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, NY is showing the film at 7:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

EVIL DEAD II is being screened from a 35mm print at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA at midnight. I legally cannot threaten to hurt you if you are in the area and don’t go…Tickets and info can be found here.

The original 1958 version of THE BLOB starring a young Steve McQueen is showing at the Trylon Microcinema in Minneapolis at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

I have seen the new 4K restoration of Walter Hill’s HARD TIMES and I am here to say that it is stunning. If you’re in New York, you can see it for yourself at Quad Cinema at 5:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
