It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

American Cinematheque in Los Angeles continues their Mario Bava retrospective with a double feature of THE WHIP AND THE BODY and BARON BLOOD starting at 6:30 pm. The BARON BLOOD screening is from a 35mm print. Tickets and info can be found here.
David Lynch’s mind-bending horror film INLAND EMPIRE is screening at Anthology Film Archives in New York at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
The Charles Theatre in Baltimore is showing Alex Cox’s punk rock/sci-fi/comedy classic REPO MAN at 9:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
A double feature of films featuring the late, great Michael Parks is being presented at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles. At 7:30 pm is the 1967 mob comedy THE HAPPENING and at 9:40 pm is Larry Cohen’s epic political drama THE PRIVATE FILES OF J. EDGAR HOOVER. Both films are being screened from 35mm prints. The Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York is screening the terrific Paul Newman hockey comedy SLAP SHOT at 9:00 pm from a 35mm print. Tickets and info can be found here.
Unsettling violence and dark themes of toxic masculinity are the order of the day as the Castro Theatre in San Francisco presents a double feature of A CLOCKWORK ORANGE at 7:00 pm and Sam Peckinpah’s STRAW DOGS at 9:30 pm. Both films are screening from 35mm prints. Tickets and info can be found here.
