Hey Bastards.
I am not one of those dudes that hates all remakes. If something new is brought to the material (like Carpenter’s THE THING) then I am okay. It’s when they have nowhere to go with the story, no respect for the characters (TEXAS CHAINSAW remake) that I check out. The remake of MANIAC has the blessing of Lustig and the crew behind the film know what they are doing in the horror genre so I am mildly interested in the project at this point.
Deadline is reporting that Elijah Wood has now officially signed on to the film. This is being produced by HIGH TENSION’s Alexandre Aja. When we last spoke with Lustig he hadn’t really processed the idea of one of his films getting a remake. “It’s kind of interesting to have made a movie that thirty years later someone is shooting a remake.” Lustig told us. “It’s kind of bizarre. We just never anticipated that. It’s an odd feeling; it’s really an odd feeling. I haven’t tried to involve myself in the project, because it’s something that is just strange and one day I’ll be able to articulate that.”
We’ll give you more updates as we get’em.
