A gritty, wiley performance from Anthony Quinn makes this Spaghetti Western about a bandit turned champion of the people, in this case Mexican peasants, worth catching. Though a bit slow at times, action enthusiasts are rewarded with a well-staged final battle and enough tough guy antics from Quinn and Charles Bronson to keep them entertained. Shades of Kurosawa’s SEVEN SAMURAI are apparent throughout.
