I think I first heard about an AKIRA project sometime in the mid 90’s and I am sure the rumors were kicking around well before then. I am a huge fan of this film, I think it is one of the most amazing pieces of animation I have ever seen with a story that is equally as thrilling and ambitious. The interwebs are buzzing today about the news that this film is finally going to see a live-action remake.
At first I was pretty psyched but the more I thought about it, the less I started to care. The animated film was made for something like $8 or $9 million, this remake is budgeted at $90 million and I bet it finishes closer to the mid 100 mark when its all said and done. Director Jaume Collet-Serra (of the Liam Neeson film UNKOWN…if you just asked yourself “what the fuck” join the club) will be the man calling the shots on the flick. TRON: LEGACY’s Garrett Hedlund sounds like a lock for the title role which actually I don’t mind too much, but give me a minute, I will get around to hating that choice soon enough.
SEE YOU ON FORTY DEUCE,
