UPDATE!!!!!

In an interview dropping tomorrow, Bill Lustig has confirmed to DG that the MANIAC remake is a go. Here’s the word from the man himself:

Bill Lustig: It starts shooting next month. It’s kind of interesting to have made a movie that thirty years later someone is shooting a remake of, it’s kind of bizarre. We just never anticipated that. It’s an odd feeling, its really an odd feeling. I haven’t tried to involve myself in the project, because it’s something that is just strange and one day I’ll be able to articulate that.”

DG: And do you own that movie, did you have the ability to say yes you can or no you can’t make that?

BL: I do, I own that along with Andrew Garroni and they had to license it from us, but it’s going to be interesting to see.

WHY MESS WITH TWISTED PERFECTION?

Looks like MANIAC is Hollywood’s next passenger on the remake bullet train, and Franck Khalfoun is rumored to direct. Khalfoun is best known for the psycho thriller P2, starring Wes Bentley, Rachel Nichols, and Emmanuel Lewis. I think I saw P2, but honestly can’t remember a damn thing about it. Not a good sign. Alexandre Aja is set to produce (heaven forbid you remake a horror classic without him), and afterwards, Aja’s probably gonna remake PET SEMATARY (no, that’s not a fucking joke).

Regardless who’s at the helm, there is no way any remake can compare to Lustig’s insane original.
