HEY BASTARDS.
Our buddy Scott Spiegel just checked in with a killer list he thought you film freaks would dig the hell out of. Now… let’s see if we can stir up some nightmares tonight.
SCOTT SPIEGEL PRESENTS:
TEN OVERLOOKED B&W GORY KILL SCENES
BEFORE
“NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD” (1968).
10. THE BLACK SLEEP (1956)
Very gory – they show a scalpel cut open the brain and this disgusting fluid pours out – man, I couldn’t believe it. It shocked me. I didn’t expect anything like that.
9. THE FLESH EATERS (1964)
(The un-cut version). When the beatnik drinks “the flesh eaters” and the aftermath. Grim.
8. THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN’T DIE (1962)
(The un-cut version). The farewell to arms scene.
7. EYES WITHOUT A FACE (1959)
The face removal scene – horrifying and haunting at the same time.
6. THE TELL TALE HEART (1960)
The gore is incredibly graphic for 1960. Dig that beating heart.
5. FIEND WITHOUT A FACE (1958)
Exploding brains!
4. I SAW WHAT YOU DID (1965)
For stabbing his wife in the shower and especially for throwing her through the glass shower door.
3. HOMICIDAL (1961)
When Emily violently stabs the Justice of the Peace.
2. THE BLACK CAT (1966)
Awesome axe in blond girl’s head and blood spurting everywhere. Saw this and other gruesome photos in Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine issue #47. Years later I finally got to see this no-budget film and the acting is horrible but the film has some really cool and scary scenes in it (and gore too)
**SPOILER**
There is a horrifying scene where the guy plucks out the cat’s eye! Yuck! Disturbing!
1. STRAIT-JACKET (1964)
George Kennedy’s decapitation is awesome and bloody – the whole head goes flying and the blood starts flowing. I bought the 20 minute SUPER 8 sound home movie of this back in 1977 and would show this at parties. The film was a big influence on Sam and me – it was the first horror film we would show before we started making our own horror films. This 20 minute version is in some ways better than the entire film (and I love the feature film!). They used a narrator to smoothly condense the film in the least annoying way (it’s quite cool) – and all of the gore and scares are there, it is really a riveting 20 minute horror film. These 20 minute film digests should be included in the SPECIAL FEATURES section in future DVD releases.
