[SHORT FILM OF THE WEEK] THEY WILL ALL DIE IN SPACE (2015)

We are constantly looking for new and different films when it comes to bringing you the best in genre entertainment. Short films are often where you find the most exciting new filmmakers taking chances, yet most audiences don’t seek them out. With that in mind, we will be showcasing a short film each week in an effort to give a signal boost to shorts we enjoy.

Slick while embracing some clichéd plot twists and tough guy dialogue, THEY WILL ALL DIE IN SPACE is the kind of spaceship-set action-horror film you usually only find when perusing the back catalogs of directors like Paul W.S. Anderson and Renny Harlin.

Writer/director Javier Chillon cobbles together sets and costumes that look like leftovers from any number of sci-fi B-movies, mixes in some impressive model work, and pretty solid CGI to create a huge feel before shooting in black and white, simultaneously hiding the cheapness of the budget and giving the proceedings a Twilight Zone feel. The resulting film, following a desperate spaceship crew as they try stay alive in their damaged vessel, is both a fun throwback to ’50s and ’60s sci-fi flicks and a nod to modern cynicism about the self-destructive nature of humans.
