Lon Chaney Jr. portrays the shuffling bandaged one for the third and final time in one of the best flicks to come out of Universal’s Kharis the Mummy series of the 1940s. A spooky swamp setting provides some strong atmosphere in this one; easily the film ‘s main asset. The scene where a dead princess (Virginia Christine) rises from a muddy bog in broad daylight is particularly eerie. Peter Coe plays the hight priest, delivering the expected flashback tale (complete with stock footage from previous entries) about the Kharis legend. The Mummy wouldn’t return to the screen until 1955’s ABBOTT AND COSTELLE MEET THE MUMMY.
