— DG PICK OF THE WEEK–
Once upon a time, Poe and I were getting together at my house and showing each other scenes from our favorite films; usually 10 scenes that were as delicately balanced as a mix-tape. There was the intro that rolled smoothly to an intriguing midpoint followed by a crushing finale. Along the way, we each had our share of trailers that creeped their way into the set-list. Soon, we created a blog to share trailers with our friends, bring rarely seen films some much needed attention. A few months later, the seeds for Daily Grindhouse were planted (not even a year ago).
Trailers are our lifeline. A finely crafted trailer is an art form. The films of 42nd street and grindhouse cinema had a limited amount of time to show their goods and get asses in the seats. This is a tribute to that craft in stunning Blu-ray. The original release on DVD had 128 minutes of trailers, this one has an ass-whoppin’ 225 minutes of exploitation bliss. This one of the best releases of the year… no surprise considering its from Synapse. Dig this good shit, Bastards!
ALSO OUT THIS WEEK…
GREMLINS 2: THE NEW BATCH is a totally different beast compared to GREMLINS. I really dug seeing these characters away from suburbia and playing in a new enviornment. I dig the new breads and the fun they seemed to have in making this flick, but it’s missing the charm of the first one. Don’t get me wrong, I think this flick is fun as hell, but it isn’t even a pimple on the ass of the original.
I’m not gonna lie, Bastards. This flick isn’t for everybody. It’s slow-moving, methodical, and rather artsy. That said, I really fucking dig it. It’s surreal, dreamlike, and in my honest opinion, not to be missed. – Creeper
Bow down to The Mistress of the Dark you unworthy dog! Another collection from the horror icon and includes two episodes that didn’t air on the revival of Movie Macabre.
A visceral punch in the face. A truly remarkable film that leaves you exhausted by the end.
I am not a huge fan of the original film so I didn’t get my panties in a bunch when it came to remaking it, but even if you dig the original, this film is all kinds of wicked badass. Rebecca De Mornay is fucking crazy in this, we’re talking HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE nuts. This is well worth a watch.
Raro Video release some amazing stuff… but this is really mediocre. I just didn’t dig this film. It has its moments but wallows in mediocrity too often. It does have its fans though so I tossed it up here.
I have not seen this yet, but it has Kate Beckinsale in leather so odds are high that I will have an erection… I MEAN WATCH IT! Odds are high that I’ll watch it! Ah who am I joking.
That’s it for this week, Bastards.
We’re back next week with: THE GREY, THE DEVIL INSIDE, THE WALKING TALL TRILOGY (Blu), and more.
Until then…
HERE’S TO GOOD WATCHING THIS WEEK, SALUTE!
