Special effects maestro Ray Harryhausen brings to life another of his classic creations in this exciting monster-on-the-loose flick. A rocket ship returning from Venus crash lands into the Mediterranean Sea, bringing with it two survivors: a pissed off astronaut and a tiny Venusian creature dubbed The Ymir. Soon Italy has its hands full as the creature grows to mammoth proportians, and as you can probably guess, goes on a rampage.
Unlike other marauding beasts from the 50s, the poor Ymir only looses its temper after man attacks it in fear. Harryhausen animates its tantrum with his usual mastery, placing the creature on top of the Roman Colosseum (minus Fay Wray) at the finale. Monster fans may notice that the alien’s roar is awfully similiar to that of the Cyclops from THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD.
