This was the directorial debut of Larry Cohen, the grindhouse legend responsible for BLACK CAESAR, HELL UP IN HARLEM, and IT’S ALIVE. This is kind of an exploitation/comedy hybrid, it takes on some weighty subjects for a debut but Cohen tackles it the only way he can; with grit and a heavy dose of schlock. This is actually one of his better films. And by the way, fuck the alternate title. Kotto is BONE! Dig it!
