WHAT’S DOIN’, BASTARDS?
One day, in the not too distant future, young freaks and geeks across this great land of ours will be able to buy some of Hammer’s classic titles on Blu-ray. Sure, we already have VAMPIRE CIRCUS and TWINS OF EVIL from Synapse, but when it comes to the titles that built The House of Hammer, we are left empty (despite the titles rocking the UK for the past year). Millennium Entertainment has announced that they will distribute titles from Exclusive Media’s Hammer library in the U.S. in a deal that covers Hammer titles going back to the third film in the Dracula sereies, DRACULA: PRINCE OF DARKNESS.
The first release is due on April 2nd and will be a two disc DVD, three film set. DRACULA: PRINCE OF DARKNESS, THE LEGEND OF THE SEVEN GOLDEN VAMPIRES, and FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN (the fourth film in the Frankenstein series). Millennium said in the press release that “we hope that our American Hammer fans will love the Blu-ray collector’s editions and that these editions will also help new fans discover our rich history.”
Goods news is that it’s coming. Bad news is that it sounds like we won’t be seeing anything before 1966 (which includes the first two Dracula films and three Frankenstein films). When you’ve waited this long, what’s another 6-12 months?
LOCKED AND LOADED,
MR. SIX
