NOVEMBER IS A MIXED BACK FOR CRITERION
Sometimes when Criterion announces their lineup, I lose my shit. They are capable of remarkable work (LE CERCLE ROGUE on blu still gets me as does SEVEN SAMURAI, ARMY OF SHADOWS and others). Lately though, I think they have been lite on titles that hit me in the geek bone. Their picks have bordered on pretentious with the added insult of shitty extras. That equals a bad combo that makes me second guess tossing those bad boys into the ol’shopping cart, November may be different though.
Although not without their share of unwatchable crap, they also have some cooler than hell titles coming. Sidney Lumet’s 12 Angry Men, Jean Renoir‘s masterpiece The Rules Of The Game, and Wes Anderson’s Rushmore in 1080p is going to be the balls. Nothing though compares to their October lineup which includes Erle Kenton’s The Island of Lost Souls on Blu-ray, now that is something to drop some dollars for.
Check out The Criterion Collection for full details on the films.
