[DAILY RUNDOWN] TODAY’S COOL SCREENINGS!

THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2017 (All show times are local)

The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles is showing a tasty Anthony Hopkins double feature. At 6:30 pm, he has a very unhealthy relationship with his ventriloquist’s dummy in MAGIC and at 8:50 pm is his breakthrough turn in THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Both films are being screened from 35mm prints. Tickets and info can be found here.

Modern horror classic JACOB’S LADDER is screening from a 35mm print at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago at midnight. Tickets and info can be found here.

RAWHEAD REX seems to be having a renaissance due to the 4K restoration it’s been given. You can catch that restoration screening at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA at midnight. Tickets and info can be found here.

Brian De Palma’s CARRIE has stood the test of time as both one of the best Stephen King adaptations and one of Sissy Spacek’s best performances. You can catch it on the big screen at the Metrograph in New York at 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm, and 9:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

THE CRAZIES just might be George A. Romero’s most cynical film. At the very least, it’s a howl of anger you will not soon forget. Catch it at the Denver Film Society at 9:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Never turn down the chance to see NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE screen from 35mm prints. Trylon Cinema in Minneapolis is giving you that opportunity with NIGHT at 7:00 pm and CHAINSAW at 9:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Sometimes you just want to watch Bruce Campbell spout off one-liners as he defeats an army of the dead. The Davis Theater in Chicago is showing ARMY OF DARKNESS at 11:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
