THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2017 (All show times are local)

I’m not sure why more people don’t talk about Jackie Chan’s car racing action flick THUNDERBOLT. It’s one of his best films from the ’90s and it is screening from a 35mm print at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn at 9:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Fritz Lang’s classic noir THE BIG HEAT is screening from a 35mm print at the Trylon Cinema in Minneapolis at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

James Ellroy will be on hand for a 35mm screening of the terrific adaptation of his novel L.A. CONFIDENTIAL at the Alamo Drafthouse in Denver at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

THE LIBERATION OF L.B. JONES, a tense, gritty tale of race relations in the south at the end of the ’60s, is screening from a 35mm print at Quad Cinema in New York at 8:50 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Okay, maybe it’s not exactly grindhouse material, but I love the movie BABE and I would consider myself derelict in my duties if I didn’t tell you it was playing at the Senator Theatre in Baltimore at 1:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Sean Baker’s stylish, funny, and moving TANGERINE is playing at the Denver Film Society at 7:15 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

I have never seen 1983’s BLOOD BEAT, but a film described as a regional slasher flick where the killer is a supernatural samurai makes me feel like I need to watch it immediately. The Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers, NY is screening a 2K restoration of the film at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.
