THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

THURSDAY, APRIL 20, 2017 (All show times are local)

Doc Films on the University of Chicago campus is showing the “Black & Chrome” version of MAD MAX: FURY ROAD at 7:00 pm and Alex Cox’s punk rock sci-fi/comedy REPO MAN at 9:30 pm. REPO MAN is a 35mm screening. Both films are $5 at the door. That’s a lot of cinematic goodness for just ten bucks! Info can be found here.

The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles has a double feature of Jonathan Demme’s delirious, genre-bending comedies SOMETHING WILD at 7:30pm and MARRIED TO THE MOB at 10:00pm. Both films are being screened from 35mm prints. Tickets and info can be found here.

It’s April 20th, so of course there has to be a screening of a Cheech & Chong film somewhere. Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn has you covered with a 35mm screening of NICE DREAMS at 9:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

TOTAL RECALL, Paul Verhoeven’s so much better than it had to be Schwarzenegger-led blockbuster, is playing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Cinefamily is presenting a super-fun double feature at the Vista Theater in Los Angeles. First up is a tenth anniversary screening of Edgar Wright’s HOT FUZZ at 7:30 pm with Wright and actor Timothy Dalton doing a Q&A moderated by Jordan Peele. A 35mm screening of POINT BREAK follows it, which, if you’ve ever seen HOT FUZZ, is beyond perfect. Tickets and info can be found here.

If you know of an under-the-radar theater or film society regularly putting together repertory screenings or special events, feel free to let me know on Twitter!
