[DAILY RUNDOWN] TODAY’S COOL SCREENINGS!

THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 3, 2017 (All show times are local)

It might be difficult to remember after two lackluster sequels and the direction that Will Smith’s career has gone in the last ten years, but the original MEN IN BLACK is a lot of fun. You can catch a 35mm screening of it at 7:00 pm at the Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers, NY as part of the It Came From ’97 series. Tickets and info can be found here.

The Robert Mitchum-starring moonshiner drama THUNDER ROAD is being shown by the Chicago Film Society at 7:30 pm on the campus of Northeast Illinois University. This is a 35mm screening. Tickets are $5 at the door. Info can be found here.

Two polar-opposite films are being shown at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX. First up, at the Slaughter Lane location at 7:45 pm is David Cronenberg’s fifth or sixth masterpiece, DEAD RINGERS. Tickets and info can be found here. If you’re in the mood for a can’t-look-away-from-it-trainwreck, you can see ROAR at the Ritz location at 9:45 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

The Senator Theatre in Baltimore, MD is showing both “Volumes” of Quentin Tarantino’s violent revenge saga, KILL BILL. VOL. 1 screens at 7:00 pm and VOL. 2 follows at 9:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

CHAINED HEAT is pure women-in-prison sleaze starring Linda Blair, Sybil Danning, and Tamara Dobson. If that trio does not make this a must-see, you are reading the wrong site. It is playing at the Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco at 10:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

SWEET, SWEET LONELY GIRL was a favorite of several DAILY GRINDHOUSE writers at last year’s Fantastic Fest. You can catch this throwback to regional horror films of the ’70s and ’80s at Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn at 7:30 pm. Writer/director A.D. Calvo and stars Quinn Shephard, Erin Wilhelmi, and Susan Kellermann will on hand for a Q&A. Tickets and info can be found here.
