[DAILY RUNDOWN] TODAY’S COOL SCREENINGS!

THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 14, 2017 (All show times are local)

This is not a drill! DEATH WISH 3 is playing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Ashburn, VA at 7:40 pm. Go watch the logical extreme of this long-running action franchise and bask in the glow of its glorious trashiness. Tickets and info can be found here.

New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles has a cool double feature. At 7:30 pm, they are showing Sofia Coppola’s brand new adaptation of THE BEGUILED. Then at 9:30 pm they are showing the 1971 Don Siegel-directed adaptation of the same novel, bearing the same title. Both films are being screened from 35mm prints. Sofia Coppola will be on hand for a Q&A following the double feature. Tickets and info can be found here.

Amy Heckerling’s witty mid-’90s teen comedy CLUELESS is showing at the Senator Theatre in Baltimore at 8:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Edward D. Wood Jr.’s legendarily clunky, cheap, yet oddly heartfelt GLEN OR GLENDA? is showing at Quad Cinema in New York at 9:15 pm. This is a 35mm screening. Tickets and info can be found here.

The Kentucky Theater in Lexington, KY is showing John Frankenheimer’s masterful THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE at 1:30 pm and 7:15 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

There is something so cornball sincere about the wacky Cannon Films production of MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE that has kept it a beloved cult item for thirty years now. The Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco is showing it at 10:45 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

FATHER’S DAY, the crazed grindhouse homage from the Astron-6 filmmaking collective, is playing at FilmScene in Iowa City, IA at 10:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

As part of their films of Edgar Wright series, the Music Box Theatre in Chicago is showing his western spoof A FISTFUL OF FINGERS at 9:30 pm. Made when Wright was just a teenager, the ultra low-budget effort contains his obsessive knowledge of genre film and razor-sharp editing, operating as a precursor of what was to come. Tickets and info can be found here.
