[DAILY RUNDOWN] TODAY’S COOL SCREENINGS!

THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

MONDAY, JUNE 19, 2017 (All show times are local)

Jim Jarmusch’s terrific spin on the hitman genre GHOST DOG: THE WAY OF THE SAMURAI is playing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin at 7:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

If you’re a Jarmusch fan who is in Chicago instead of Texas, you can catch his third feature film, DOWN BY LAW at Facets Cinémathèque at 6:30 pm. All information can be found here.

The Alamo Drafthouse in Lubbock, TX is showing John Carpenter’s classic comedy/action oddity BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

A double feature of lesser-known westerns is playing at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles. At 7:30 pm, you can see Gregory Peck in SHOOT OUT and at 9:35 pm, Rock Hudson and Dean Martin star in SHOWDOWN. Both films are being screened from 35mm prints. Tickets and info can be found here.

Quad Cinema in New York has crazed campy flicks from two of the best cult filmmakers of the twentieth century. At 4:30 pm, Paul Bartel’s comedy western LUST IN THE DUST starring Divine and Tab Hunter is being screened from a 35mm print. At 6:30 pm, John Waters’ DESPERATE LIVING is screening from a 35mm print. Tickets and info for LUST IN THE DUST can be found here. Tickets and info for DESPERATE LIVING can be found here.

I know I’ve plugged THE UNTOUCHABLES a lot in this column, but that’s only because it’s awesome. Brian De Palma’s classic cops and gangsters film is playing a thirtieth anniversary show at the Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas at 7:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn is screening a 35mm print of the trippy, animated FANTASTIC PLANET at 7:30 pm with a live performance of the score. Tickets and info can be found here.
