THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

The Alamo Drafthouse in San Francisco is screening horror favorite POPCORN from a 35mm print at 9:50 pm. Don’t miss out on this one! Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

Brad Bird’s lovely and very entertaining THE IRON GIANT is screening from a 35mm print at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

MONKEY BUSINESS, one of Howard Hawks’ final screwball comedies–this one starring the dream team of Cary Grant and Marilyn Monroe–is screening from a 35mm print at Anthology Film Archives in New York at 9:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles is doing a double feature of low-rent, but entertaining exploitation films starring George Peppard. At 7:30 pm, see him in the apocalyptic wasteland thriller DAMNATION ALLEY and at 9:30 pm, you can catch him in the Roger Corman-produced STAR WARS knockoff BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS. One of the few found footage horror films worth a damn, [REC] is showing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin at 9:45 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

The Academy Theater in Portland, OR is showing Wes Anderson’s fun and sweet stop-motion animated throwback FANTASTIC MR. FOX at 1:25 pm, 5:30 pm, and 9:45 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

 

 

IT IS FINE! EVERYTHING IS FINE., Crispin Glover’s psycho-sexual horror film by way of a Lifetime TV-movie with amazing sets, is playing at IFC Center in New York at 7:00 pm. Glover will also be presenting his Big Slide Show Part 2 and doing a Q&A and book signing. Tickets and info can be found here.
