THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

THURSDAY, JUNE 22, 2017 (All show times are local)

Tim Burton’s modern fairy tale EDWARD SCISSORHANDS is playing at Film Bar in Phoenix at 7:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

I feel like I keep encouraging everyone to go check out the 35mm print of ANGEL HEART that has been screening around the country. But that’s doing a public service. Alan Parker’s underrated thriller is playing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers, NY at 9:30 pm. Go see it! Tickets and info can be found here.

BLACK MOON, Louis Malle’s bizarre allegorical fantasy starring Andy Warhol favorite Joe Dallesandro, is playing at Cinefamily in Los Angeles at 10:30 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

THE BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS is less a movie and more an endurance test of ’60s sci-fi shlockiness. If you think you can handle it, you can catch it at 7:20 pm as part of the Greeley Grindhouse series at the Greeley Avenue Bar and Grill in Portland, OR. All info can be found here.

Joe R. Lansdale is one of my favorite writers, Bruce Campbell is one of my favorite actors, and Don Coscarelli is one of my favorite directors. It is no wonder that when they joined forces they birthed one of the best movies of this century in BUBBA HO-TEP. You can catch this modern classic at 7:40 pm at the Alamo Drafthouse in Ashburn, VA. Tickets and info can be found here.

Ana Lily Amirpour continues her tour of cool movie theaters in support of THE BAD BATCH by visiting the IFC Center in New York. At 7:00 pm, she will be presenting a block of her short films followed by a Q&A. Then at 9:00 pm, there will be a screening of her breakthrough feature directorial debut A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT. Tickets and info can be found here.

If you know of an under-the-radar theater or film society regularly putting together repertory screenings or special events, feel free to let me know on Twitter!
