[DAILY RUNDOWN] TODAY’S COOL SCREENINGS!

THE DAILY RUNDOWN is a quick look at just a few of the cool screenings and film events happening around the U.S. every day. It is not intended to be an exhaustive, comprehensive list, but a sampling of the terrific genre cinema available to check out at your local art house, megaplex, film society, and repertory theaters.

THURSDAY, JULY 20, 2017 (All show times are local)

The Mario Bava retrospective at Quad Cinema in New York rolls on with a 35mm screening of the goofy, James Bond ripoff/spoof DR. GOLDFOOT AND THE GIRL BOMBS at 5:00 pm and his pure fun comic strip adaptation DANGER: DIABOLIK at 6:45 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Wolfgang Petersen’s loopy, surprisingly dark children’s fantasy THE NEVERENDING STORY screens from a 35mm print at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA at 7:00 pm and 9:45 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York is showing two promising new indie horror films as part of its Scary Movies X series. At 7:00 pm is the horror that comes with being a new mother in STILL/BORN and then at 9:30 pm is the zombie horror of IT STAINS THE SANDS RED. Tickets and info can be found here.

Tim Hunter’s deeply unnerving 1987 drama RIVER’S EDGE has more horror in it than most straight horror films. You can catch it at the Charles Theatre in Baltimore at 9:00 pm. Tickets and info can be found here.

DAILY GRINDHOUSE contributor Kevin Maher is presenting another of his Kevin Geeks Out shows at the Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn at 7:30 pm. The topic this time is the Kaiju genre. Among the films that will be discussed and from which clips will be screened is my personal favorite, Larry Cohen’s Q. Our own Jon Abrams will be there to offer up nuggets of wisdom and trivia, so be sure to go and say hi! All info can be found here.
