Legendary director John Carpenter is getting closer to bringing the nightmares of Ariel Chylde to the big screen. It has been a while since we had an official update on DARKCHYLDE which follows Ariel, a cursed teen that can become the creatures from her many nightmares. Working from a script by the creator of the comic book Randy Queen, Sandy King Carpenter (Carpenter’s wife and producing partner) is getting all the pieces together and dropped DG a line to let us know the latest on the tormented teen who dares to dream.
After talking with Mrs. Carpenter, we can report that Weta (LORD OF THE RINGS, AVATAR, THE AVENGERS) is currently working on the creature concepts which is obviously a very integral part of the film. Also in on the action is Illusion Industries (WATCHMEN, GI JOE: RETALIATION) who are working to nail down the design of Ariel and the visual effects arm of Peerless who are working on some of the manifestations. Though this is a heavy effects film, Carpenter was quick to point out that the creature work will be practical effects with some CG enhancements.
On the casting front, Darkchylde fanboys will be happy to know that actresses like Chloë Moretz, Elizabeth Olson, and Elle Fanning are being thought of for the title role.
We are still a ways off from DARKCHYLDE hitting the multiplexes but things are falling in place for the project at a pretty brisk pace and we hope to have more news soon. Dig it!
