Colorful adaptation of the H.G. Wells story about a Victorian era journey to the moon is good old fashion fun. Marred by an over abundance of comedy relief during the film’s first half, act two jumps into high gear once Ray Haryhausen’s special effects roar to life. The inner lunar world he creates, full of giant caterpillars and insect like moon men, still manages to dazzle.  They sure don’t make ’em like this anymore.
