For those viewing this trailer for the first time, you might be wondering what in the hell is The Thing. Is it the carrot man from THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD blown up to gigantic proportions to battle Godzilla? Or maybe it is some mutated , multi-tentacled creature as the ambiguous American movie poster would have us think? No, it’s just our old friend Mothra, back for her second film appearance after her debut in 1961’s MOTHRA. Luckily for Kaiju fans, the American name change didn’t affect the finished product as GODZILLA VS. THE THING is the best of the original sequels to GOJIRA.

Full of creative battle and destruction scenes, the film was the last in the original series to feature a villainous Godzilla. Here he is 100% bad ass, cranky atomic terror as he takes another jab at Japan and is forced to battle Mothra after threatening to destroy the big momma moth’s egg. A subplot about greedy landowners gives the film some depth and ties in nicely with the monster mayhem. No other film in the Showa series outside of GOJIRA was so craftily made. A real winner for monster fans. Most commonly known as MOTHRA VS. GODZILLA.
