I am a huge Howard Hawks fan and have been for some time. Years ago I recalled hearing Tarantino describe what he told his production designer for PULP FICTION when it came to the Jack Rabbit Slims set. If I recall, he mentioned a few films that they looked at; one was the Elvis film SPEEDWAY (I believe, it might possibly have been SPINOUT) and Howard Hawk’s REDLINE 7000.

 

 

 

I was already entrenched in my Hawks phase then so I had to seek it out. It was released on VHS only and was not easy to find. When I finally did see it, I can’t  say I wasn’t a little let down, however I was still glad I saw it. James Caan is the lead and he is enjoyable enough. Anyway, it has never seen the light of day of DVD and it was the partial inspiration for this list . The other film just happens to be another Tarantino favorite: DIRTY MARY, CRAZY LARRY.

 

 

That one is near the top of the proverbial car heap when it comes to car chase movies. A lot of fun. When I started digging into Netflix I found lots and lots of stuff for you all to marathon with car and truck action. You’ve got your trucker classics like CONVOY and WHITE LINE FEVER(only on Crackle.com). You’ve also got not only the SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT Trilogy (if you dare venture all the way through) but also the much hated STROKER ACE.  I’d like to personally recommend both GUMBALL RALLY and DEADHEAD MILES, a couple of my favorites in this group.
