NEW LINE DEVELOPING ADAPTATION OF CLASSIC VIDEO GAME ‘RAMPAGE’

Hey bastards, I get to be the wolf.

New Line Cinemas has plans for some city smashing via video game style. Producer John Rickard, whose upcoming JACK THE GIANT KILLER has us crossing our fingers, is meeting with writers to bring the Midway Games classic arcade game ‘Rampage’  to the big screen. Any bastard who set foot in that magical world of the video arcade as a kid remembers this classic game about a trio of giant rampaging monsters (Godzilla and King Kong wannabes and a werewolf) and their metropolitan destroying habits. Being a full on monster geek, this was one of my all-time favorites.

Here’s to hoping that New Line goes balls out and gives us a giant monster movie that avoids all of the pitfalls of a CLOVERFIELD or Emmerich GODZILLA. Early reports that the project will emulate the visuals of the game and have the flavor of a GHOSTERBUSTERS  or INDEPENDENCE DAY has me speculating that the flick will be more EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS than WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS. Then again, there was a lot of people eating in that game, so there’s hope.
