HEY BASTARDS.

It started off as a remake of Jimmy Wang Yu’s MASTER OF THE FLYING GUILLOTINE (a sequel to ONE ARMED BOXER… I could talk about both of these films and THE ONE ARMED SWORDSMAN films all fucking day). However, somewhere, fortunately, someone came to their senses and realized they could never match the batshit crazy of the original and decided to make a film all their own. And thank Christ, because Andrew Lau’s THE GUILLOTINE looks tough as nails. H/t to the Twitch crew for grabbing this. Dig it!

The skinny on the flick:
During the Manchurian-ruled Qing Dynasty, Emperor Yong Zheng established a secret assassination squad known as the Guillotines to eliminate all who opposed him. Once heavily favored by the Emperor, the Guillotines are deemed expendable once Emperor Qian Long ascends to the throne and adopts Western ideas and technology. To consolidate his power under a new regime, the Emperor continues to use the Guillotines to persecute the conquered Han Chinese in a reign of terror and oppression.
