Shion Sono (SUICIDE CLUB, COLD FISH) is a pretty fascinating director. I just discovered him a few years ago (late to the club, I know) and it’s easy to get lost in his filmography and the subtext of his macabre work. His films tell dark stories of the flaws in humanity, but I may be dressing it up too much because he can also pull off bat-shit crazy with the best of’em. Which brings us to his latest flick WHY DON’T YOU PLAY IN HELL? set to debut at Cannes in May (with a release in Japan on September 28, 2013). The film stars Jun Kunimura and Shinichi Tsutsumi as fierce rivals but Tsutsumi falls for Kunimura’s daughter and things get bloody… quickly. This trailer is short but it’s jam packed with chaos and swords, so we’re down and ready to get our eyeballs on this ASAP. We should have a better idea of a domestic release date after Cannes so we’ll keep you updated.
LOCKED AND LOADED,
MR. SIX
