NEW UPDATES ON BLADE RUNNER SEQUEL AND POINT BREAK REMAKE

HEY BASTARDS.

The crew over at IndieWire’s The Playlist had a chance to talk to Alcon Entertainment producer Andrew Kosove and they got the skinny on a few projects; one was the BLADE RUNNER sequel that Ridley Scott is going to be working on, the other is a remake of Kathryn Bigelow’s POINT BREAK… cause that’s all I ever hear is “WE NEED A POINT BREAK REMAKE!” Maybe Chace Crawford can play Keanu’s part and Steve Guttenberg can be the Busey character?

Kasave on BLADE RUNNER: “Moving forward aggressively in development. Sometime in the first two months of the new year we’ll announce who the screenwriter will be and whether or not it’s a prequel or sequel. And then we’ll be off to the races,”

on POINT BREAK: “It’s not a literal remake of the original the way ‘Footloose’ was — it was identical to the original film. [Our ‘Point Break’] has got elements of the original and it’s not just surfing, it’s other kinds of extreme sports, but surfing is very, very prominent in the story. We’re out to a director now, so if it were to go in that direction, it’d be a big announcement. We have someone who we think is the perfect filmmaker. I’d be very surprised if we weren’t in pre-production in 2012.”

They also have a nice chunk on PRISONERS which is a revenge thriller being directed by Denis Villeneuve.

I am not down on a POINT BREAK remake, it seems that any film that has been made prior to 2011 is a prime candidate so there’s no point in bitching about it. I think the original is kind of a pop-action masterpiece. A perfect product of its time but the basic story could easily be adjusted and tweaked. Curious to see what happens with that. Check out the interview though, it’s a good read.

SEE YOU ON FORTY DEUCE,
