R.I.P. Ken Russell

Hey Bastards.

Sad news this morning about Ken Russell. The legendary director passed away yesterday at the age of 84 following several strokes. His career started on television with (among a few smaller projects) a visual eye-punch that featured Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave sexing up a crucifix. His last film was TRAPPED ASHES that he worked on with Joe Dante, Monte Hellman and others. In between however, was a career full of sin and sensory overload.

From TOMMY to ALTERED STATES to the skanky CRIMES OF PASSION, Russell knew how to create challenging pieces of work. He never doubled down on the Jess Franco route, his work always had more purpose than that. British Cinema lost a legend yesterday, nobody will ever create a trip again like Russell did.

SEE YOU ON FORTY DEUCE,

G
