SALVATION FILMS READIES ALAIN ROBBE-GRILLET COLLECTION FOR RELEASE

Salvation Films has made quite a name for themselves as purveyors of classic art-house genre films, and that reputation continues with the announcement of their acquisition of five films of Alain Robbe-Grillet, the French filmmaker perhaps best known as the writer of Alain Resnais’s mindbending time-shifter LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD, for their Redemption Films line. Let’s go to the press release!

trans_europ_expressWe are very excited to be able to announce that we have signed five films by the renowned and at time extraordinary writer and director, Alain Robbe-Grillet.

Robbe-Grillet who wrote and directed a number of controversial and provocative films in his own confrontational style purposefully avoided structured narrative in order to “show imagination at work”. His films dealt with violence, murder, destruction, sex, love, bondage and so on, in ways that would often force the viewer to find out the films meaning by chance or unexpectedly as the story evolved.

Redemption has signed five superb examples of Robbe-Grillet’s work: Trans-Europe-Express (1967). The Man Who Lies (1968), Eden and After (1970) and Slow Slidings of Pleasure! (1974). Also included as an extra with Eden and After will be the alternate version, N Take the Dice (1971).

Here’s a clip from TRANS-EUROP-EXPRESS, an oddball combination of erotic thriller, a mystery, and a film-within-a-film:
