[REMAKE NEWS] ROBERT RODRIGUEZ TO DIRECT ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK

Remakes of beloved (and profitable) films are inevitable, so it comes as no surprise to hear the news that Robert Rodriguez has been tapped to direct the remake of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. According to Deadline , Fox purchased the rights to remake the film in 2015 and have hired Neil Cross of Luther fame to write the script, with an eye to kickstarting a franchise.

While I would rather see John Carpenter given the remake money to create something brand new (or even to remake the severely flawed but interesting ESCAPE FROM L.A.), he will be on board the remake as an executive producer. The famously taciturn director even managed two whole tweets praising the choice of Rodriguez.

Given the current political state, there is plenty of potential for the remake to give us an even more jaded, cynical Snake Plissken. Hopefully Rodriguez finds the right badass to usher in a new series of films that honor what Carpenter and Russell created, rather than simply copy it.
