Jack Davis is one of those illustrators whose unique style you already know, whether or not you know his name. If you’re a maniac like me, you grew up reading the tiny credits so you already know Jack Davis as one of the original artists for MAD Magazine. Surely you’ve seen his design work for cartoons, such as his character designs and posters for Rankin-Bass with MAD MONSTER PARTY? And if you’re a fan of American movie poster art, you’ve just plain seen his work over and over and over. A wordy tribute doesn’t feel right as a means to honor such a vital visual force, so let’s go directly to the art gallery. (And please note, this isn’t remotely comprehensive. Get at Google for much more.)
The invaluable IMP Awards is the site I used to find most of these posters. Be sure to visit them.
