ROMPER STOMPER (1992)

Set in Melbourne, ROMPER STOMPER weaves the tale of a group of skinheads coming to terms with the ever-growing population of Vietnamese immigrants moving into their town. And by “coming to terms” I mean acting like complete asshats. Par for the course, I guess.

Director Geoffrey Wright runs a tight ship: The film moves at a breakneck pace, and he has a real knack for shooting action. The only quibble I have is a slight case of narrative schizophrenia. Is it a character piece? Is it a love story? Is it a home invasion movie? Who knows?

Regardless, this flick is definitely worth checking out.

Boasts great performances from a young Russell Crowe and Daniel Pollock.

Trivia: Australian icon Olivia Newton-John recorded music for ROMPER STOMPER which, sadly, was not used in the final cut.

Oh, what could’ve been…
