No, the title doesn’t allude to the sounds the audience made at the screen when this goofy potboiler of a horror flick was first released. Instead it refers to the story of mad scientist Carl Stoner (Strother Martin in a subdued performance) and his cracked obsession to turn lab assistant Dirk Benedict into one of nature’s slithery fiends. People with a fear of snakes may cringe at the abundant use of live reptiles throughout the flick, but it’s slow going for the most part. The abrupt ending left an opening for Sssssss 2….ssssssstill yet to be made.
