THE AVENGERS is going to close out 2012 as the best superhero film of the year so it was kind of a foregone conclusion that a sequel was going to happen but like the majority of sequel announcements, this one has crazy fucking stoked; Joss Whedon is returning for the THE AVENGERS 2. This wasn’t a slam-dunk and anybody that thought he was already locked in for the film was quaking in their boots at Comic-Con when Whedon said “I have not come to a decision on directing Avengers 2 yet.” Funny how a few extra zeros can change your mind. According to Variety, the deal also includes a live-action TV show within in the Marvel universe. No characters or initial outlines have been released for that project nor the film.
